 A volunteer writes:
We see instances of courage every day, but not always in a 14 year old dog who has been abandoned by her family because they are moving... Innocence stands proudly in her kennel watching me approach. I leash her and out the door we go. I'm amazed at her spry, lively step and purposeful stride. Her leash manners are great as she walks, never faltering, by my side. We are told she is housetrained which she demonstrated for me as soon as we left the building. We are also told that she knows 'sit', 'down', and 'stay', and that she likes most other dogs, but can be selective. That's OK - most of us are selective in who we like - I can relate! Innocence lived with two adults, 1 teenager, and 2 kids under 13 for all her life, and is doing incredibly well considering her change in circumstance. She posed for her photos like a pro, and hungrily gobbled down the treats I rewarded her with. Her coat appears to be clean and cared for, her weight good for her size, her eyes bright and intelligent, and her white face shows strength of character and charm. She is so good looking, I wish I could see a picture of her when she was young - she was surely a knockout! Seniors are the best; they simply want quiet, some love, food and a good snuggle. She absolutely 'wowed' me as I know she will you... ask to meet her today.

TO BE DESTROYED TUESDAY 7/2/13 Manhattan Center

  LUGO - ID #A0969791

I am a male white and gray pit bull about 11 MONTHS old.

A volunteer writes: Lugo's eyes are mesmerizing, light grey, crystal clear and giving him the most elegant look. He is a gorgeous pup, only ten months of age, plump, healthy looking and so needy of human attention and love. He is a bit shy, wary of the stairs and is at his best, leash free in a pen. His favorite place to be is my lap when he rolls on his back and mouths my hand gently. He wants so much to please, wiggling his body and wagging his tail. He seems to like other dogs. Although timid, Lugo is quite sociable as time spent with a caretaker goes by. He welcomes with a big smile and excitement to anybody entering our area. Lugo walks well on the leash. He could be house-trained. He sits and stays on command and poses nicely for the pictures. Lugo did guard his food during his behavioral assessment at the care center. If given a chance, this will have to be addressed by his new master. Lugo is at the Manhattan Care Center, a puppy in love, a puppy in need.

06/23/2013 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh, what a delight it is to be out with a guy like Chance! He is a distinguished gentleman who is an accomplished walker in the park as well as a master ballplayer who loves the game of catch and fetch. In the backyard, he runs and jumps and eagerly demonstrates his retrieving skills, dropping the ball promptly at my feet to continue play. And in between tosses, he stops by for quick little butt scratches that spark delightful wriggles. And he's disciplined with commands, as he "sits" on request even if it means an interruption in his play time. Having joined us because of landlord issues, his family had nothing but glowing remarks about Chance. We're told he is house-trained, friendly with children, strangers and other dogs, and knows several commands. And to quote the family, he is "quiet, loves kids, loves to play ball." With his wonderful manners and laid-back ways, no doubt that Chance was a well-loved member of the family who enjoyed many visits from the family's grandchildren; he's neutered too! So if you're looking for a companion who walks like a champ, minds his manners with other dogs and people at the park, and is ready to play ball at a moment's notice, look no further! Chance is a sure winner! A volunteer writes; Chance begs silently to go out.. His eyes are so eloquent, I can not resist. Chance lived with the same family all his life. His masters made a point to say that he was a great ball player and loved their very young grandkids. Beside being a fan of the ball, Chance would be well behaved, housetrained, seems friendly to all including other dogs and very calm. This family dog was well cared for, looks healthy and wears a spotless flame coat. Chance is indeed well mannered and walks beautifully on the leash. He does not mark his territory and appears to meet other dogs in a civil way. He eliminates in the curb and not on the side walk. He sits and stays on command, posing like a star for the pictures. In the yard, Chance becomes a puppy again. He loves to be petted and does come on the lap for smoochies. He loves to play ball and this calm gentleman flies in the air to catch the ball in mid air. He is really good at it.nChance I think could play for hours and hours. I enjoy my time with Chance. He is well mannered but playful too and quite loving and loveable. Will you take your chance with Chance. Please, do. He will brighten your life with his presence. Chance is at the Manhattan Care Center.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go unnoticed. Foster care provider cannot keep much longer, need help getting him out ASAP

Hi I'm Tate. I enjoy just about everything but mostly I like people a lot--especially kids. I have a lot of energy and love to go on walks or even better, runs but can go from 60 to 0 if its inside time. I play fetch but have my own rules that are still being perfected. You probably won't understand but I'll show you if you want. I have some experience with cats and it has overall gone pretty well. I sort of think we're friends but every now and then, I can't resist my urge to chase. After all, I was wild just a few months ago. You'd hardly know it as much as I crave attention from my people but I still have some unresolved issues with dogs I don't know so could use help from someone who can convince me that they're okay. Overall I will grow up to be a pretty great dog and am looking for an equally great home!

Any questions should be directed to Lori Rhoades (lrhoades@cityofsacramento.org) & Sam Burgin (sburgin@cityofsacramento.org).

I am a spayed female, brown brindle and white Bull Terrier and Pit Bull about 1 year old.

I have been at the shelter since Mar 22, 2013.

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Sparkles is an amazing pup who has the most adorable overbite, which gives her the cutest little dorky smile. She is a petite girl with beautiful brindle coloring. She absolutely loves playing with squeaky toys and going on walks. She is a very bright girl who knows "sit" and learned "down" in two tries! A good ear-rub is the secret to this girl's heart, and she will reward you by rolling onto her back for some belly rubs. She takes treats gently and will be a total all-star at training since she's so smart and treat motivated. Little Miss Sparkles will make a wonderful pet.

UPDATE: In Foster care, GRACIE ❤ ♡ ❤ ღ #A562272 spayed female, 1 year - Sacramento, CA [[ADOPT-FOSTER-RESCUE]]

❤ ♡ ❤ ღ GRACIE - ID#A562272 ❤ ♡ ❤ ღ

 ____[[ADOPT-FOSTER-RESCUE]]____

I am a spayed female, brown brindle Boxer about 1 year and 8 months old. I am currently in foster care.

PetHarborPet Gracie is a spayed female 1 year old brindle Boxer mix full of spunk and silliness. She is currently in foster care where she has learned basic commands and is working on general manners. She loves car rides, eating ice cubes, romping around the yard (monitored, though, as she tends to be a bit of a Hoover vacuum), and especially loves to play in the sprinklers. But, after all the fun she loves nothing more than to snuggle on the sofa with you for a movie and popcorn, or take a snooze with you on the bed. She is just like any other happy-go-lucky pup, except that she has an esophageal abnormality that requires monitored water intake, slower feeding sessions and some crate time afterwards to allow her food to fully digest so that it does not regurgitate.

Gracie is a favorite of shelter staff and volunteers who are hoping she will soon find her forever adoptive home with someone who can be patient with her feedings, which take about 10 minutes twice a day and 1-2 hours crating after she eats. Gracie is quite the showboat and likes to be the queen wherever she goes, so she would be best as an only pet, or with a large breed male dog that is tolerant of her “it’s all about me, isn’t it?” attitude. She also requires a home with a yard for play time, and to be within a loving home committed to her continued training.

For more information on adopting Gracie, please email ingridc@saccounty.net or call 916-202-1699.

UPDATE: KILLED! :(( RIP SWEET BABY Siren, Wisconsin BEYOND URGENT!!! – Stunningly Beautiful, Deaf PBT X, only 6 Months Old! **WILL BE PTS

This beautiful, deaf, PBT X puppy needs to find an experienced adopter or rescue with deaf dogs ASAP or he will be PTS!!! Please, please help!!! He is only 6 months old and has never been worked with!!! If you find you are not in a position to help now, please quickly share with all your contacts! Thank you!

We received the following:

My Manager at the Humane Society in Siren, Wisconsin received this message from another local shelter.

"We have a 6 month old deaf Pit Bull that was never worked with. We have contacted 4 rescues with not a reply from even one of them. He is difficult to handle, nice, just difficult! He cannot be adopted as he is. Does anyone know someone or a rescue experienced in training deaf dogs. He is going to be a handful! If he cannot be placed he will be euthanized. I don’t want him going to some shelter that will just leave him sit to simply save his life. He will go insane!"

Please if Anyone can help, e-mail me at daniellekirkman@ymail.com or contact me via Facebook. We would like to help these people help this baby out. We are located in Siren, Wisconsin. Please, he's just 6 months old and if they can't find him a rescue he will be euthanized. We don't want that!!

This is all the information we have. We are networking; we do not have this sweet pup, nor, unfortunately, are we able to help with transport. For any additional information, or to adopt or rescue, please quickly get in touch with the shelter/person listed under contact information.

We try to update our posts as quickly as we become aware. If anyone else has been in contact with the shelter/contact and has updates, please let us all know. Thank you.

About

No Kill New York, Inc., with 501c3 pending. We are New York Animal Rights Alliance America with K. Riviello, President. Join us June 22nd!! Build Shelters in Queens and the Bronx, end the killing of cats and dogs now!!

 Description

ANNOUNCEMENT: I take it for granted that everyone knows this but our 501c3 for NO KILL NEW YORK, INC., is in the final stages. I will be President. This will not just be a Facebook page.

Our organization will have the same stamina to withstand the political environment that infests this movement to get the job done of (1) MASSIVE FREE AND LOW COST SPAY NEUTER for the State of NY, (2) Continued shelter investigation with legal action against acts of animal cruelty, negligence and incompetence of a municipal entity, (3) Education and awareness of ADOPT DON'T SHOP in the school system, (4) Video drama series starring kids for social media for awareness of not only dog and cat abuse but animal rights, (5) Protest and rallies for public demonstrations, (6) and Political Advocacy at the city and state levels throughout NY State. Yup, this is the first 501c3 my friends. We have two EIN numbers for two NY State nonprofits, the other 501c3 will be the rescue and animal rights group for all animals, which is pending as well.

Anyone can call and ask any questions they like. We will never have any awareness if we simply sit on Facebook and pledge rescued animals (which although necessary as well, we can walk and chew gum at the same time). So does this make your day? Call any time!! 845 856 7366

Animal lovers protest inhumane conditions of NYC shelters

In Queens, animal lovers took to the streets of Long Island City to protest what they say is the City’s abuse of pets in shelters.

The New York Animal Alliance says it wants to educate people about the inhumane treatment at the pound and the organization says Queens and Brooklyn don’t even have shelters for homeless, abandoned and abused animals.
